IRVINE, CALIFORNIA, September 6, 2017 - Cylance® Inc., the company that revolutionized traditional antivirus with artificial intelligence (AI) powered prevention that blocks both everyday and today’s most advanced cyberthreats, announced that its AI driven CylancePROTECT® anti-malware product achieved the highest efficacy ratings in a test of eight endpoint security solutions by managed security services provider (MSSP) iT-CUBE SYSTEMS AG.
Test report authors Kevin Börner and Markus Reiniger set out to answer the question, "Is the detection rate of traditional AV (antivirus) products still sufficient or do new solutions offer a significant advantage in the fight against unknown and new malware?" After extensive testing, the iT-CUBE team reported, "The result of this investigation is that the new generation offers a remarkable advantage in comparison to conventional endpoint protection solutions both in terms of detection rate and performance (i.e., resource consumption)."

CylancePROTECT achieved the highest anti-malware efficacy of all the products tested, both those classified "next-generation" and "conventional," while consuming nearly the least amount of system resources. It was the only endpoint security product tested by the firm that successfully prevented infection by all the ransomware tested – nearly 50% of all malware in the test itself, representing families of ransomware such as Petya, Locky, WannaCry, and others. The report says, "Not all samples of ransomware were found by the solutions tested. CylancePROTECT was the only solution that could block and delete all ransomware samples before causing any harm."
iT-CUBE specifically acknowledged the power and sophistication of CylancePROTECT’s machine learning model, saying, "The maturity that the AI model has shown is extraordinary. One can certainly call this model the most advanced of all tested solutions."
About the iT-CUBE Endpoint Protection Solutions Tests
Nearly 4,500 individual malware samples of many types – ransomware, trojans, etc. – were employed to test eight next-generation and traditional endpoint security product offerings in two phases. Among these samples were instances of malware that had been mutated or repackaged. Varying threat scenarios were used over the course of iT-CUBE’s tests, enabling a more thorough and robust evaluation of the products, from varying the levels of endpoint cloud connectivity to limiting agent definition updates and simulating zero-day sample freshness.
Victim resource consumption was also measured, to include RAM and CPU utilization both while idle and while interacting with a threat perceived by the individual product. This was done to give the consumer of the report a better idea about which products were making the victim system work harder – both when inactive and when cleaning up malware.
