Irvine, CA -- (October 4, 2012)  – Cylance, Inc., a stealth security company dedicated to solving large and complex security challenges, today announced the acquisition of Skout Forensics, a cyber-forensics technology and services company specializing in automated forensic acquisition. The company, based in the Washington, DC Metro Area, will be integrated into Cylance's development team to enhance its own forensics technology roadmap and merge with Cylance's professional services team to expand its already advanced forensics capabilities. Skout Forensics' high-performance automated forensic acquisition technology provides a scalable, push-button collection of large distributed data storage devices, allowing for complex and holistic analysis.

Nearly every attack against government, military and corporate targets suffer from the same fundamental problem: data acquisition fatigue. The incident response process depends on accurate, timely and complete evidence collection, which can easily overwhelm and discourage many forensics teams. Skout Forensics' technology and expertise alleviates and automates this process, allowing for seamless and automated collection and analysis.

"After countless incident response and forensics engagements, I can tell you definitively, no one is truly effective in helping the forensics analyst in the data acquisition process in any substantive or automated way," said Chris Coulter, co-Founder and CTO of Skout Forensics. "Joining Cylance means we can deliver our solution to a much broader audience and have our automated evidence acquisition process reach a global audience, allowing for more complete, simplified and intelligent responses to the most vicious and advanced threats in the world today."

"After 25 years of in-field computer security experience, I can tell you that most companies forget to plan for the inevitable: getting hacked and responding to the incident effectively," said Stuart McClure, CEO/President of Cylance, Inc. and former Global CTO of McAfee. "Knowing the problems that the world faces today, we have to help companies detect and respond to these breaches in a more efficient way. Too many companies give up, clean up and move on rather than pour through the seemingly endless evidence tsunami that comes from a broad scale breach. With Skout Forensics' team and technology, we can now offer customers our elegant solution to this problem."

Based in Waltham, Mass., CounterTack is backed by Fairhaven Capital and a group of private investors.
