No Pattern File Updates, Protection Against Threat of Unknown Malware
Japan, April 18, 2016 - Cylance® Inc, of the United States (Headquarters: California, USA, President and CEO: Stuart McClure, hereinafter "Cylance") has signed a distributorship agreement with Hitachi Solutions, Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, President and Chief Executive Officer: Setsuo Shibahara, hereinafter "Hitachi Solutions") for the first release in Japan starting April 18 of the CylancePROTECT endpoint next-generation malware protection software, which has a proven track record in over 18 industries , like manufacturing and financial in the United States and other countries. This product uses machine learning with algorithmic science to enable an artificial intelligence (AI) approach to advanced detection and protection at endpoints before unknown malware is executed. In addition, since periodic updating of pattern files is no longer required and a cloud-based management system is provided, the operational responsibilities of system administrators are reduced. Hitachi Solutions will utilize its know-how in a wide range of security measures in all areas from endpoints to networks to provide advanced security measures with these Cylance products, which have a record of use in more than 1000 organizations around the world.
Earlier this year, Cylance demonstrated its expertise in advanced cyberthreat research in a report specifically focused on Japan, called Operation Dust Storm. In this report, Cylance identified a five-year cyberattack campaign that compromised many organizations that control Japan’s critical infrastructure—including oil and gas, nuclear, financial and construction companies. Existing defensive and reactive cybersecurity solutions that rely on pattern matching and behavior detection, are not proving to be sufficient against such types of cyber attacks, as malware processes must either be known to their pattern databases or be actively running before incident detection and response can be done. Therefore, a large number of organizations have been expressing the need for proactive and preventive security solutions capable of dealing with highly advanced and previously unrecognizable threats.
- High detection rate to block threats from unknown malware, which is increasing daily
CylancePROTECT uses a proprietary machine-learning math model that analyses over seven million file features extracted from over one billion malicious and safe files, enabling it to detect both known and unknown cyberattacks with high accuracy. That contextual knowledge is then shrunk to a 40mb algorithmic file that works autonomously on the local device to pre-analyze all files before they can run. If the features of the file identify it as malicious, then the file is blocked and quarantined from ever running. If safe, the file runs uninterrupted. This technology is patented under U.S. law.
- Signature-less analysis blocks malware before execution
Because signature-less file analysis is capable of stopping malware before execution, it can provide a more reliable endpoint protection compared to other products, which act only after malicious files are executed. Furthermore, there is no need to update signature database files, which enables CylancePROTECT to function even on systems that are not connected to an organization’s network.
- Central management in a cloud environment with no need for pattern files, supporting a variety of customer environments
Since periodic updates to pattern files are no longer necessary, operational responsibilities are reduced. Therefore, malware can be detected through signature-less analysis* even in environments where a network connection is not available, such as in factories or at POS terminals.
In addition, central management in a cloud environment allows uniform management via the Internet even for clients' distributed environments, resulting in a reduction in system operation responsibilities.
* A new method of attack analysis that does not require signatures, unlike the conventional pattern matching method that uses the signatures of previous attack patterns

About Cylance® Inc.
Cylance is the only company to offer a preventive cybersecurity solution that stops advanced threats and malware at the most vulnerable point: the endpoint. Applying a revolutionary artificial intelligence approach, the Cylance endpoint security solution, CylancePROTECT®, analyzes the DNA of code prior to its execution on the endpoint to find and prevent threats others can’t, while using a fraction of the system resources associated with endpoint antivirus and detect and respond solutions that are deployed in enterprises today.
