IRVINE, CALIFORNIA, October 3, 2016 - Cylance®, the company that is revolutionizing cybersecurity with products and services that use artificial intelligence to proactively prevent, rather than just reactively detect advanced persistent threats and malware, has signed an agreement to sponsor professional golfer Bryson DeChambeau. DeChambeau’s sponsorship is currently managed by Inspire Sports, LLC, managers of Cylance professional athletes and teams including Cylance Pro Cycling, Cylance-Incycle powered by Cannondale, and women's paced-bicycle land speed record-holder Denise Mueller.
"We are passionate supporters of ground-breaking athletes who challenge the status quo with innovation and the unparalleled spirit that we identify with here at Cylance. Bryson is breaking records today leveraging cutting-edge math and science in the sport of golf, just as we are with applying math to the problem of endpoint protection and replacing antivirus," said Stuart McClure, founder, president and CEO at Cylance. "In the same way we've worked hard to innovate and revolutionize cybersecurity technology, we are thrilled to be a part of Bryson's journey to break new ground and revolutionize his industry."
DeChambeau, 22, has been the U.S. Amateur and NCAA champ for Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas, where he is a senior majoring in physics. In June 2015, DeChambeau became the first SMU Mustang to win the NCAA individual championship, recording a score of 280 (−8) to win by one stroke. In August, he won the U.S. Amateur title, defeating Derek Bard 7 and 6 in the 36-hole final. He became the fifth to win both the NCAA and U.S. Amateur titles in the same year, joining Jack Nicklaus (1961), Phil Mickelson (1990), Tiger Woods (1996), and Ryan Moore (2004).
"I am grateful and honored to be partnering with Cylance," DeChambeau said. "They are extremely innovative and analytical, aligning with my own values, and I believe we will have a successful partnership for years to come."
DeChambeau made his PGA Tour debut as an amateur in June 2015 at the FedEx St. Jude Classic near Memphis, Tennessee. Immediately after the Masters in mid-April 2016, DeChambeau turned professional and signed a long-term agreement with Cobra-Puma Golf. He qualified his way into the U.S. Open, tied for fifteenth place, and improved his world ranking to 148.
